What is Project?
Project
is a weeks camp run by a national Scout
Fellowship, for Explorer Scouts (aged
14-18) from across the
UK. The camp is held in the ancient Epping
Forest, which extends from M25 into North
East London. During the camp participants
complete four conservation tasks within the
forest.
How is the week
structured?
The structure of Project
remains nearly the same every year, but can
change from year to year as we try to improve
our already winning formula. Here we try to
give a broad overview of the structure of
Project, but for please check out the
next project, in
case we decide to change some aspects.
Participants arrive on
the Sunday where they register and are placed
in one of four teams - Blue, Green, Red and
Yellow. The rest of the day is spent getting
to know each other and finding out what
happens next!
During the week teams
travel to one of four sites within the forest
(rotating on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday) and complete conservation tasks. The
tasks that we undertake are wide and varied,
but normally include a pond restoration task,
overgrowth clearance and a construction site.
After a hard days work we visit Gilwell Park
and have the use of the swimming
pool/showers. Wednesday is a day off and a
day out is arranged. Previous visits
have included London Bridge, the London Eye
and Thorpe Park. During the evenings a
variety of activities are organised, which
have included quizzes, orienteering and team
building challenges amongst others.
What
do Explorer Scouts have to say about
Project?
Project is great fun,
but don't take our word for it, here are some
of the things that previous participants have
had to say about the camp:
“Project is the best weeks
holiday you can have. You can meet lots of
new people from different parts of the
country and the price that you pay to come on
Project is nothing because the experience is
priceless. I would recommend Project to
anyone that is into Scouting, you will love
every minute of
it!!!”
Jennifer
- Greater Manchester
“Project is an amazing
experience where you can make new friends and
catch up with old ones. It is mix of work,
play and general fun. I have been for 5 years
and I hope to return as a leader in the
future.”
Matt -
Dorset.
“Project is a great week
where you have lots of fun and make lots of
new friends. You will learn how to do things
like chop down trees and dig out ponds.
You’re almost guaranteed to find
muscles you never knew that you had. It
really is something that anyone and everyone
should get involved
with.”

& Kim - West Leeds
